Cost & time savings for residential builders

With the rising costs of building materials and a universal shortage of skilled workers, often coupled with the need to construct on brownfield and marginal land, residential developers need solutions that increase their bottom line and allow them to build faster and more safely. They also need to balance those cost and time savings with environmental requirements and the aesthetic needs of local stakeholders and the eventual owners and residents

Tensar’s proven technology helps make the most of all available land, reduce costs and materials, and speed up construction, meeting the challenges of sustainability and climate change resilience.

Weak or Variable Ground

Before building work can start, reliable clean access and storage areas are needed. Weak or variable ground presents a considerable challenge to developers. Tensar geogrids can provide strong, stable road foundations even over the weakest soils. By stabilising the capping or subbase layers, the overall thickness requirement can be reduced, saving on excavation and materials.

Additionally, when wet weather sets in, Tensar geogrids can be used to stabilise working platforms for access and storage so that construction can continue no matter what the weather.

Safe Piling Platforms for Half the Cost

Where piling is required on a development, the developer is responsible for providing safe platforms for the rigs to operate, and over weak soils the cost of piling platforms can be considerable.  Tensar has proven design techniques for stabilised platforms that typically result in cost savings over 50%.

Roads and Paved Areas

Often, roads are the first and last major activities. They must carry high construction traffic loads in the initial stages to satisfy owners and local authorities in the long-term. Tensar geogrids can reduce the aggregate and asphalt layers while offering the same or enhanced performance: total road thickness reductions of up to 50% are possible. By stabilising the unbound layers with Tensar geogrids – even on firm ground - developers can shave days off construction schedules, reduce materials usage, minimise excavation, cut transport movements, and offer the owners a more resilient structure.

Retaining Walls and Steep Slopes

Retaining walls and vegetated steepened slopes can maximise available land space, while enhancing the aesthetics of a development. Tensar offers a variety of earth retaining systems to address the complexity of every project.  Used in conjunction with Tensar’s uniaxial geogrids and Tensar’s design support, our retaining systems provide both beauty and durability.

Foundation Resiliency in Seismic Regions

Certain soil types are prone to liquefaction, and when these occur in seismic regions the developer faces a challenge. Proven techniques to mitigate against the effects of liquefaction on low structures are available. These utilise stiff raft foundations of aggregate, stabilised with Tensar geogrids. Design support is available from Tensar for these simple but effective solutions.

Design with confidence, from anywhere.

The TensarPave design program allows design engineers to rapidly produce pavement designs, for both paved and unpaved roads. Using Tensar geogrids to stabilise the unbound layers will maximise the cost benefits that can be attained by reducing the pavement thickness.
